3.5Everyone knows that I m a sucker for these types of novels and that maybe the reason why I was expecting so much from The Emo and The Jock Yes, I loved the plot since in this case the jock was the smart one while the emo needed the help to pass math The love story instantly pulled me in and soon I found myself loving the characters and story line. There are just two things that I didn t like about this story One was the fact that the writer referred to Evan and Cole as the emo and the jock so many times I wondered why she chose to do that since it did flow with the story well Another thing I dislike was the fact that we never found out why Evan s father abused him they way he did He told Evan that it was his fault that his mother died at childbirth, but later, we find out that she died in a car crash and Evan was left to his care So, why would he treat him the way he did Evan was the last reminiscence of his wife He should have treated him like his most precious possession Why the abuse Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I would totally recommend it since it does not follow the traditional nerd jock love story which I happen to love It is spanking new and fresh and very well written by N Phillips.

So, uh, wow This started out really bad for me I get the stereotype, but it felt like the author was trying to beat me over the head with it The characters have names I don t need them referred to as emo and jock repeatedly The characterizations should be enough description Also, the writing was too simplistic at times, well most of the time I do think the relationship was built pretty reasonably, but I just didn t find myself really attached to either character Even with all that though, this was probably headed for a 2.5 rating However, the Charlie situation towards the end blew out all my what the ever living fuck signals, and I just couldn t I can t This is the 4th YA m m novel that has had this type of situation in it that I ve read in probably the last 6th months It does nothing for the story but steer it towards ridiculousness Do I think it can be written in and done well Sure, but I ve yet to seen it done so At least not in the m m genre This is really disappointing because opposites attract and enemies to lovers are my favorite tropes in books I m not going to write this author off though I think with some great content editing future books have the potential to turn out great This one just didn t work for me on several levels. For a great review though, check out Nik s She obviously had similar problems as I did, but enjoyed it a bit better.

I loved this story The plot has been used before in movies and other romance novels but I love it anyway.Evan lives in a trailer park and is abused by his alcoholic ass of a dad Cole has it all, gorgeous, super smart, tall, football star and very rich with parents who travel a lot and just compensate their son with money Evan is failing math and Cole who has had a crush on emo Evan jumps at the chance to tutor Both characters are 18 and at their senior year in high school Conflict comes in the form of a psycho ex who is understandably bitter bec Cole never loved him.Cole is sweet attentive and caring and Evan blossoms under his care Happy that Evan has someone to take care and love him now.

3.15 Some reviewers complained of the overuse of the words emo and jock for the MCs, and they are absolutely right It got to be a bit much and I was literally waiting for the next time one of those two words was used for an MC as I was reading. The storyline is hurt comfort abuse meets a YA Cinderfella and opposites attract with a crazy ex stalker thrown in for good measure, it could have been better, I didn t connect or care for Cole and Evan as much as i wanted to, but I liked it well enough that I m going to pick up the short sequel.

Usually if I don t put any stars on the book well, that means that book is just not my type of book and no way am i reading it again. One thing that totally totally puts me off is when Charlie said the 3 words Cole immediately break the relationship. What was he doing with Charlie for two years Don t tell me there s not even love during the two years. That s what turns me off immediately. I actually felt sad for Charlie. Well, its only my opinion and I just don t like this kind of storyline. I don t mind if they broke off because of cheating or abuse or even mental abuse but this kind of breaking off is just I don t know unacceptable. Charlie even had dreams of being together with Cole forever. I love the cover though

I really loved this 2 characters, and the story was pretty good. The only reason I didn t rate it higher, it was because of the abused This year alone, I have read so many stories portraying abused characters, it is getting really annoying. The authors are running out of ideas that they keep using this, as part of the plot

Review posted at Under the CoversMuch like the mixing of two of your favorite foods that would never seemingly go well with each other until you give it a shot and suddenly discover that it the next best thing since sliced bread, there is something equally amazing about putting together two characters who couldn t be opposite and finding them falling for each other The story of the Emo and the Jock is just like that.Meet the Emo Evan Harris He is a loner and the only emo in a small town school He lives with his deadbeat father who uses him as a punching bag He s artistic He works at a music store And he is failing Algebra.Enter the Jock Cole Morgan He s the school s star football player He is gay but has not come out except to his ex boyfriend, Charlie His family is rich, but his parents are too busy to spend much time with him He excels at Algebra and just became Evan s personal tutor Oh, and I forgot to mention, Cole has had a faraway crush on Evan for the past couple of years.Rather quickly, Evan and Cole form a friendship these two seemingly different boys realize they have in common with each other than meets the eye Evan takes well to the tutoring, but starts to wonder why, when he has always been seemingly straight, Cole causes him to have butterflies in his stomach Evan begins to evaluate his romantic feelings for Cole, and before long, Evan is experiencing many firsts with Cole hubba hubba. The development of both a friendship and a romantic relationship between Evan and Cole is very, very sweet But while this takes place with the boys in high school, this is not a Young Adult book Moments between these two fellows are very intense and quite hot And there is something even sexier when at least one of the guys is experiencing everything for the first time.Everything cannot be all rainbows for these guys, however Cole s crazy ex boyfriend, Charlie won t allow it He is possessive, irrational, continues to swim in a famous Egyptian river, and is just plain psychotic His actions are a bit ridiculous and just a tad over the top for a scorned ex lover, but sadly there are some high schoolers these days that do behave in such deranged ways I do have to say, however, my inner bitch was happy and thankful for one thing that Charlie did At least he did one good thing. So, going back to that recipe analogy, if you are looking for a sweet story about young love that defies the rigid boundaries of defined character aspects, much like taking the salty goodness of bacon and dipping it into the uber sweetness of chocolate , and you don t mind a bit of ridiculousness because, really, who would have previously thought bacon and chocolate could work together , The Emo and The Jock is just for you Try it while eating chocolate covered bacon, and I guarantee you ll enjoy both Review copy provided by the publisher.

I liked this book but there were a few niggles First, I found the constant reference to the two main characters as the emo and the jock to be way over used I understand that we are working with stereotypes here but goodnight. Second, while some of the writing was quite good, I thought the majority was a bit too simplistic Alot of potential here but it fell a little short for me Third, the major point of angst Charlie I honestly thought it was a bit overdone and didn t really feel much tension, especially when I felt like the author was trying to make it tense Like I said, tons of potential here but just didn t follow through on it With that being said, I would probably give this author another try to see if they were able to work out some of the kinks..

2.5 stars rounded up because for once the jock wasn t questioning his sexuality and was tutoring the emo guy but the rest of the plot was too soap opera like for my taste.

3.5 stars, I was so excited for this story because the idea sounded like just what I was in the mood for The story was good but I really was looking for angst and it was short so you didn t have much time to get into the characters All in all a good read because it kept my interest enough.
